- 2/3 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Mix warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl; let sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until smooth.
- Divide dough into small pieces and shape into bite-sized balls.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then add baking soda.
- Boil the pretzel bites in batches for about 30 seconds, then remove and drain.
- Arrange pretzel bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven, brush with extra melted butter if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
- Ensure water is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
- Boiling in baking soda gives pretzels their distinctive crust.
- Serve with your favorite dips like mustard or cheese sauce.
