- 1 pound Italian sausage, sliced
- 1 cup orzo pasta
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add sausage slices and cook until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pot, sauté onion and garlic until fragrant and translucent.
- Add the orzo and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Pour in chicken broth and heavy cream. Bring to a simmer and cook until orzo is tender, about 10 minutes.
- Return sausage to the pot, stir to combine, and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Mix in Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy. Season with salt and pepper.
- Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
- For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes with the sausage.
- Use fresh herbs for a more vibrant flavor.
- Can be made ahead and reheated gently on the stove.
